Alex St-Pierre is a Master’s student in the Media Studies program at Concordia University. Alex obtained her Honours BA with a specialization in Psychology and a minor in Communication Studies from Laurentian University in 2019. She then obtained her MA, in Global Communications, from the American University of Paris. Her MA thesis focused on feminist rhetoric on Instagram through examining the ideological frameworks within which six popular feminist Instagram accounts exist and operate and how those accounts work to disrupt certain hegemonic ideologies about gender and feminism itself. Alex’s research interests include the study of social movements as they occur on Instagram (and on social media in general), gender representation in television and film (specifically Disney, Pixar, and popular sitcoms), and political speeches and statements concerning sexual harassment/assault allegations.
