Saulé Norkute – Making from Place

[acf field="date"]

June 28, 2019
Time: 10:00am-1:00pm

CJ Building, Room 2.130
Concordia University
7141 Sherbrooke W
Montreal (Qc)

During this workshop, participants will get a short practicum on how site-specific performances are created, and the crucial role that location can play in creative and research-creation practice. The workshop will focus on the sites we are based in: for the purposes of this workshop, Concordia University’s CJ building and the Feminist Media Studio. We will investigate these places’ acoustic, symbolic, historical, narrative, affective, kinesthetic, and textural qualities, along with other valuable information they may provide. Together we will explore these locations and ask: what is threaded into the fabric of these spaces? How can we unlock our findings and express them through artistic practices? Participants will be guided through short exercises to create small site-specific installations or performative actions.

The workshop is open to Feminist Media Studio Members, Concordia Diploma and Graduate Students, and Faculty. No previous experience or skills are required. Registered participants will receive updated information on some basic materials to bring. Please register for the workshop before June 25th. Spaces are limited. Register by emailing

Saulė Norkutė is an artist and theatre practitioner from Vilnius, Lithuania. She studied film at The Prague Film School and Performance Arts at The Central School of Speech and Drama in London, England. She has staged performances in museums, small towns, theatre spaces, and market places. Her practice uses artistic research as a starting point, with the aim of unlocking places rather than imposing interpretations and assumptions onto them.

She creates narratives as a way of reframing the qualities of a given site and its inhabitants.
