Dorothy Mombrun

2024 – Bachelor degree in Journalism, University of Concordia, Montreal

Dorothy Mombrun, a Montreal-based artist, photographer, cultural facilitator, and journalist, skillfully combines her talents to showcase the vibrancy and resilience of black women and femmes through visual storytelling. Since 2016, she has used bold colors and striking contrasts of light and shadow to create empowering imagery, challenging negative stereotypes and celebrating black femininity.

In 2022, Mombrun curated her debut exhibition, “Aynalem: l’Oeil du Monde,” at the Centre d’Art Diane Dufresne, followed by the “Be You” exhibition in collaboration with Hoodstock Montreal and the CARE project in 2023-2024. Beyond exhibitions, she engages in cultural mediation, fostering discussions on art and activism with a Black feminist perspective. As a mentor and coach since 2019, Mombrun has impacted over 200 youths through photography workshops.

In the podcasting realm, Mombrun co-hosts episodes on “Mots-à-Mots” and “That Feminist Podcast,” and frequently appears as a guest on arts and culture podcasts. Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Art in Journalism at Concordia University, she also serves as the Photo Editor at The Link Newspaper.
