| A colour photo of a white fem-presenting person with short brown hair and a septum nose ring, wearing a cream and navy blue baseball tee. They are shown from the shoulders up against a plain, white background, turned slightly to the side and looking off-frame. |
| Emelie Cowan (she/they) is a queer, settler Media Studies scholar and graduate student currently based in Tiohtià:ke (Montréal, QC), studying at Concordia University. They hold an undergraduate degree in Journalism from Carleton University and have previously worked as a community arts administrator. Emelie is interested in questions of artistic and cultural labour, cultural policy, and media’s role in shaping public life. Drawing from media studies and Marxist political economy, their research examines how art and artists are mobilized within institutional and governance contexts under neoliberalism, foregrounding questions of power, value, and labour. |
