Tessa Lee Cook

Tessa Lee Cook is a Montréal-based undergraduate student in Political Science and Journalism at Concordia University. Her work sits at the intersection of feminist media, cultural production, and community-based storytelling, with a particular focus on grassroots nightlife and independent cultural initiatives in Montréal. Drawing on several years of experience working in the city’s nightlife sector, she approaches nightlife as an informal public sphere where social relations, identities, and collective cultures are actively formed.

Alongside her academic work, she has completed a communications internship at Moment Factory, gaining experience in large-scale cultural production and immersive storytelling. Her interests centre on participatory media practices that bridge online platforms and embodied community experiences, challenge algorithmic echo chambers, and amplify underrepresented voices within local cultural ecosystems.

The Feminist Media Studio is located on the unceded lands of the Kanien’kehá:ka Nation. We seek to stand in solidarity with Indigenous demands for land restitution and reparations.

Our work—committed to intersectional and anti-colonial feminist praxis—actively engages and names the predicament of doing feminism on stolen land. We acknowledge that territorial acknowledgement is insufficient to stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities.
Our anti-colonial and decolonial efforts articulated in our Lab Values center resisting extraction in all its facets, de-centering feminist canons, valuing methodologies that oppose white supremacy, and building good relations with human and more-than-humans.
