Yuan Y. Stevens
Yuan Y. Stevens (she/they) is an Academic Associate at the Centre of Genomics and Policy at McGill University. Her research examines the ethical, policy, and legal implications of developing and adopting AI and generative AI systems, with a focus on the meaningful inclusion of equity-seeking populations in the design and rollout of AI systems.
Yuan has been researching AI governance since 2017, when she worked at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University. She has written for popular media outlets including The Toronto Star and Ottawa Citizen, and has been quoted in news stories by The Globe and Mail, the CBC, and The New York Times. She is a research affiliate at Data & Society Research Institute.
Yuan obtained her JD and BCL from McGill University, winning numerous awards for her academic excellence and contributions to her community. She completed her LL.M (Concentration in Law and Technology) at the University of Ottawa, where the Centre for Law, Technology, and Society recognized her with its Impact Award for her thought leadership on data governance and digital rights.
